About

Carol Hwoschinsky
Carol Hwoschinsky led a life rich in engagement and service, facilitating listening and conflict resolution in the United States and internationally, while expanding her own understanding of conflict as a crucible for evolutionary transformation. Living in the cultural vibrancy of the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960s through 1980s, she earned master’s degrees in both special education and psychology and worked as a licensed therapist, an educator, and a mediator in multiple settings for many years.
Carol’s interest in conflict resolution and citizen diplomacy took her to Armenia, where she contributed to dialogue and joint projects with Armenia, Karabakh, and Azerbaijan, and to the former Soviet Union, where she taught psychology and communication. She was deeply involved in the work of the Compassionate Listening Project, which fosters dialogue and reconciliation between parties in conflict in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, serving as a trainer/facilitator and becoming a member of the Core Council and the lead trainer for the Advanced Training and Certification Track.
After moving to Southern Oregon with her husband, Paul , she mediated for victim/offender programs and served on the board at what is now the Resolve Center for Dispute Resolution and Restorative Justice in Medford. Carol is the author of Conflict as an Evolutionary Force: A Personal Journey and Listening with the Heart: A Guide for Compassionate Listening.
